There are many website online where you may purchase one of these giant creatures, although they do come with warnings in regards to the venom of the centipede and advise not to hand such a pet. Many such collectors use a 5 to 10 gallon clear tank, much like a fish tank, to house their arthropod. The temperature must be between 75 and 85 degrees with about 3-4 inches of potting soil at the bottom of the tank. The humidity of the tank must remain around 75 or 80% and they are usually fed crickets, baby mice, spiders, cockroaches, and most flying insects.

In many places, such as Thailand, Cambodia, and other countries in Southeast Asia, the centipede is used in whiskey. The whiskey is triple distilled and then sealed with a ten-inch Vietnamese centipede inside. It is often compared to the worm in Mexico's famous tequila, however with different effects. While the Mexican tequila is thought to have hallucinogenic effects if the worm is eaten, the centipede whiskey is believed to be an aphrodisiac. Many claim that the centipede whiskey can also be used for medicinal purposes as it helps ease back and muscle pain.
